e-Book  Production Tools

There are an ever increasing number of good ebook compilers. Most produce EXE format ebooks, which can be read on PCs, but not Macs (unless Windows emulators are installed).

PDF format ebooks are limited in the number of 'compilers' (Acrobat, the creator of PDF, has a corner on the market), but there are a few options which are much easier on the pocketbook. The main advantage of PDF is that it is platform independent. There are a couple of new entrants which produce EXE-type ebooks, but don't require MS IE to run (they have their own browser), so these are platform independent too.

•  ebookgenerator
  This one is the BEST for newbies. The Wizard takes you step by step thru the creation process. Once you have your draft in HTML format, the three minutes from start to e-book is true!! No free trial on this one yet, but this is the only one with a 'disable your ebook' feature -- and a you can download a demo ebook. This software comes highly recommended. •  ebookcompiler
  New - updated version now available. This is a great piece of software to use to create an e-book from a set of HTML files. It is slighly more complicated to use than e-book generator, but not a problem if you've been into e-publishing for a while. All the features you'll need, and you can download ebookcompiler and use it free as long as you don't sell your e-books (but, you can give them away...). A great value! Click here to check it out.



•  E-ditor
  Using E-ditor you'll easily be able to compile html pages that include text, links, photos, graphics, sounds, animations and movies, and convert them into a compact and attractive e-book. New version 2.5 has a user-friendly interface, includes video-tutorials, and security features to help you produce cutting-edge e-books or even full-fledged multimedia presentations just like a pro! •  eBook Creator
  A unique serial number is generated for each eBook that you create with eBOOK CREATOR. Easy-to-use buttons and menus make creating eBooks a breeze for even the beginner. A step-by-step tutorial explaining every option in easy-to-understand language. Fully functional demo available to download, and you CAN sell e-books you create with the demo version. • DeskTopAuthor
  This is definitely one worth looking at. Create your ebook with pages that 'turn' -- and best of all, no HTML required. The interface is similar to a word processor - very intuitive, but you can still produce an EXE format ebook. You can also import HTML if you wish. This one is great, especially if you aren't a fan of HTML. No browser is required to view the ebook either - click here for a free trial. Note, the number of ebook pages is limited in the trial version.



• eBooksWriter Pro
  Another new ebook compiler with no HTML required. A word processor-like interface but still produces an EXE format ebook. These guys have been around for a while in the DTP and site building tools arena. Another alternative for the HTML-phobic, but HTML is supported too. No browser is required to view the ebook with this one either. Click here and take a look.



•  Acrobat
  This one is the 'old standby' for electronic document distribution (sort of the precursor to e-book publishing). It is still the best choice for very large e-books, and it does work on MACs, but the reader interface is not as smooth as the e-books created with either ebookgenerator or ebookcompiler (or any EXE format), and acrobat reader software is required to view these e-books (but that's free). But, Acrobat itself is one pricey solution.

e-Book Marketing Tools

Once you have your e-book ready to distribute, you will need a cover to help in the marketing. A cover is really just a graphic file based on a book background with text for the title and author. If you are really good with graphic software, you can create your own from scratch, but this is a time-consuming process. There are tools to help ease the process.

• 3D e-book covers
  The 3D ebook cover site provides a lifetime of fresh, new cover designs for one subscription fee along with a free sample set of covers for you to use. It is definitely worth a look.

• E-Book and Box Cover Creator
  Do-it-yourself eBook Cover Creation (software) is now available! Brand new ebook and box cover creator software by the makers of The Logo Creator. Do-it-yourself, but with professional results. And very easy to use. Free demo download to try it out.

• eCover Generator
  eCover Generator is a self-contained software program designed specifically to produce custom e-book cover graphics. It is totally stand-alone - you don't need any other graphics program. The tutorial (and the software itself) takes you step by step from start to completed e-book cover. Then, you'll need a webpage describing your ebook, a way to take payments, and a thank you page with the download link. If this sounds hard -- hang on to your seat -- because it is about to become easy as pie!

I'm not kidding -- the fill in the blanks way to create a sales letter web page with order links using ClickBank to take payments, and a thank you page with download links for your ebook -- all with no HTML knowledge required (just cut and paste the code generated for you).   eBook directory and search engine. Now accepting submissions from ebook authors. You will need to have a webpage set up for your ebook for them to link to. The signup is easy - I've listed all my ebooks there too (you can never promote too much). Click here to submit.
